Here & Queer & Thriving! Youth Pride Open Mic Night & Dance to Celebrate Queer Joy and Community

The Palenke Arts Teen Center will come alive with music, poetry, and pride on Saturday, June 21st from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, as youth and allies gather for Here & Queer & Thriving! — a vibrant Youth Pride Open Mic Night and Dance designed to celebrate and empower queer and trans youth.

The theme of Here & Queer & Thriving! is “Space to Be Me” — encouraging youth to come dressed in their interstellar best and celebrate their identities with pride and creativity. Hosted by our guest speaker Mozell Ward and Youth Leaders Tahani and Deacon, the evening will showcase performances from local youth, an open mic for attendees to share their voices, and a high-energy Pride Dance Party.

This free event is more than a celebration — it’s a powerful opportunity to foster a safe and affirming environment where young people can express themselves freely, connect with peers and allies, and build lasting community. From heartfelt poetry to joyful dancing, Here & Queer & Thriving! is a celebration of identity, resilience, and connection.

The evening is made possible through the collaboration of several local organizations committed to youth empowerment and equity: Palenke Arts, Rainbow Connections and Monterey County Behavioral Health, The Epicenter, The Diversity Center, Harmony at Home, Partners 4 Peace, and You Will Rise.
