Afro Caribbean Percussion - ALL AGES (WeD/MIER 4-5 pm)

Miércoles a ritmo Afro- Caribeño - Wednesdays are for Afro Caribbean Rhythms! - Join us every Wednesday at 4 pm IN PERSON to drum with Javier Muniz and David Ríos in a fun and supportive environment! We will be exploring the rhythms of the Arican diaspora throughout the Caribbean and parts of Latin America. We will study the background and influences Africans brought to the new world. Our first stop will be Cuba. Rumbas and various other genres will be explained and taught.
Next will be Puerto Rico. Bomba and Plena will be explained, demonstrated and patterns will be taught.
Next will be the Congo Roads. 6/8 patterns and how to play them and use them in todays music. Africa is the mother of all these rhythms and your ability to apply them will be invaluable.
We will also explore the music of South America. Brazil-Samba, Colombia-Cumbia, and other countries.
This is going to be an incredible journey to learn Afro-Caribbean Rhythms.
Javier Muniz has over 50 years of experience learning, playing and teaching música latina throughout the Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay area and founder of legendary groups like Broken English and Tocará.
David Rios is a top notch conguero, as well as Trumpet and Trombone player.
