Beginning Guitar/Music Theory

Group Outcome: Have a general understanding of Music Theory basics and be able to demonstrate intermediate level sight reading. Have a general understanding of the following scales, as well as be able to demonstrate each scale on guitar in different keys; major, natural minor, pentatonic, chromatic. Be able to sing and perform a repertoire of at least 2-3 songs for an end of the year performance. Have an understanding of rhythm basics including simple and compound meter. Be able to play rasgueos of música regional (polka, vals & Bolero) plus a universal strum.

ALEJANDRO GOMEZ

(Musician/Educator) is a musician and educator from Salinas, CA. He’s worked as an instructor, musician and music director with several organizations including Alisal Center for the Fine Arts, El Teatro Campesino, and Monterey County Arts Council among others. Alejandro has been actively teaching music and theater in his community since 2014, his expertise being in guitar and music fundamentals. He has also written and recorded several albums/releases under the artist name Flaco el Jandro and with groups such as Dread I Knights, Discos Resaca and Qiensave. He’s performed all around the country and as well as parts of Mexico and Colombia. Currently he is working on his bachelor's degree in music at Cal State Monterey Bay. His main focus is to continue to share and learn knowledge of art and culture with his students and colleagues.
